1948 Mack Type 45
Eunice, New Mexico

The Eunice, New Mexico, Mack Type 45 has now been completed and is safely back in the confines of the Eunice Fire Department.

The Type 45 is one of thirteen varieties in the Model E Series that Mack produced from 1937-1950.  This medium sized pumper was equipped with a Continental Engine rather than the traditional Mack power plant.  The pump on a Type 45 is rated at 500 G.P.M., and Mack produced 544 Type 45 units.  The Eunice engine carries serial number 45S-1344.

The restoration of this unit included a tune-up of the engine along with a thorough overhaul and re-wiring of the electrical system.  The body was repaired as needed and then painted the original white color.  New wood was fabricated and installed in the hose bed and permanent parade seating was installed as well.  Gold leaf and striping smartly decorates the apparatus as does re-chromed bright work.  A portable funeral bed was manufactured and will fit flush over the parade seating for when it is necessary to use the engine as a funeral coach.
