1950 American LaFrance 700 Series Engine
Brenham, Texas

The Texas Fire Museum recently completed its second restoration for the Brenham, Texas, Fire Department.  This project was the cosmetic restoration and conversion into a parade-funeral coach of their 1950 American LaFrance Invader (Model 775-PJO; L-4048).

The restoration of this unit included a tune-up of the engine along with a thorough overhaul and re-wiring of the electrical system.  The body was repaired as needed and then painted.  New wood was fabricated and installed in the hose bed along with a portable, wooden parade floor.  A permanent funeral floor was installed in the hose bed and is covered by the parade floor.  Gold leaf adorns the engine and the door artwork was applied back to its original design.  Decorative striping, re-plated bright work, new upholstery, and a Sterling Model 30 Sirenlite round out the accoutrements.

Next up in the Brenham Restoration Series is their Engine 1 which is an 1879 Silsby Steamer (# 607, Size 3).  We have begun discussions with the department concerning the scope of restoration and what this project will entail.  We hope to have the steamer at the museum in the near future so that we can put together a final work plan for this project along with the department's expectations.  Looming on the horizon is the 150th Anniversary of the Brenham Fire Department, and a handsomely restored steamer will be the crowning jewel of this upcoming event.
